2 carfree days in Portland!
Greetings Carfree Portlanders,
The Belmont Street Fair (Sept. 8th) and the Alberta Street Fair (Sept 15th) are coming up soon and the exciting news = both events will be closing their streets to car-traffic for the day !

9/08 - the Belmont Street Fair
Speaking to the Belmont Street Fair on the 8th, I’ve been collecting signatures along Belmont [required for street closure], and it’s going to happen.
I was able to negotiate an excellent, central location for the car-free booth - right on Belmont at 34th. It’ll be at the NW corner, adjacent the ‘Alternative/Green Transportation’ section. I just secured a donation of 150′ of sod from Portland Nursery!
With a 10 x 15 lawn IN THE STREET, there is a great opportunity for an outdoor living room set-up. Bear in mind that the Fair doesn’t provide anything as regards tables, chairs, etc. Hopefully, you guys can get a couch out there! It remains a good place to do bike tune-ups, as there should be ample space - this represents about 1.5 booths.
Folks should comment here about ways to help make this happen - it should be a great opportunity to get the word out to a lot of people.
9/15 - Alberta Street Fair
If you’d like to volunteer to help with the street closure for the Alberta Street Fair … Volunteers will be needed to set-up and dismantle traffic-barracades on the day of the event and a crew of people will be needed on the Thursday before to put-up no-parking signs along the street.
The Alberta Arts Group has worked hard to get the permit to close almost 20 blocks of the street this year! I will be volunteering on the day of the event and would love to see many of
you all out there supporting this awesome effort. If you cannot make the meeting, but would like to volunteer, you can contact the fair committee at info at albertastreetfair dot com or you could just leave a comment here and we will help you plug-in.
And Finally . . . . . . I will be working on a preparing some silkscreen this week - so that we can make tee shirts to sell at these two fabulously big carfree events. I’m thinking the printing will
happen on the afternoon of Sunday Sept 2nd. Please let me know in the comments if you’d like to help print and we will send you the complete details about when and where this action will take place. If you have an image that you’d like to see printed on a tee shirt . . . please let us know ASAP.
